End-Of-Life: Brocade V5600 router

Brocade, after the sale of the Vyatta group to AT&T, have announced the End of Life of the Brocade v5600 router platform. The platform is end of life on October 5, 2017.

Brocade announced this prior to the release of the press-releases for completing the acquisition. This is expected as AT&T have not made any indications of continuing support for other users. It would be a surprise if they license the Vyatta platform to other users.

Users of the Vyatta appliance within cloud solutions like IBM‘s bluemix cloud (the old SoftLayer) and other environments should pause for thought. What should they use instead? Are there other NFV router solutions that can be used; and what would it cost of change to support these. Most importantly, do these options scale to support the peak data rates seen in cloud attached platforms?
