SDxCentral: Hybrid SD-WAN deployment models rise

SDxCentral are reporting in their article Hybrid SD-WAN Deployment Models Rise that there are increasing moves to deploy SD-WAN based on information from the WAN Summit conference.

The information in the article seems to agree with the item I blogged about a couple of months ago [What are the choices for SD-WAN currently?]. There seems to be a split of those that are willing to deploy an over-the-top solution using existing circuits in order to gain the benefits from the use of commodity Internet transport, and to provide that access to the cloud based applications, or those that are willing to forgo the full cost benefits and instead selecting a managed SD-WAN service from one service provider that gives them the insurance of SLAs for the service. But still no-one is giving application level SLAs (for the usual reason that the Internet doesn’t have one).

Again, the IDC research that 70% of network deployments in the next 18 months are going to be SD-WAN, rather than traditional or hybrid is wheeled out.

So in the next 18 months, we will see the use of SD-WAN take off, and the constant jockeying of the current players in the marketplace will slow a little as they have more customers to focus on. Let’s see where the next two years takes us.
