Renewing Web Hosting

Time to renew the web hosting service again. So having looked at other services and the costs, and the need to support PHP and MySQL for the kind of things that I’d like to support (this blog for one), I’d pretty much made my mind up to move away from Easyspace, especially since they keep changing their services just after I renew!

However, they have a new entry level service which provides all that (although on older PHP and MySQL platforms than other providers), with a “lower” cost. This is probably achieved by the heavy (over) subscription of users onto the physical servers that support the virtualised environment that provides this service. So if they haven’t overbooked to much, then performance should be reasonable.

However, I’m going to be monitoring the performance of pages on their Starter Plus service (I know the inclusion of statistics for page generation can slow things down, but the processing element is at least consistent for this). If performance starts to drop, then I’m going to look elsewhere, as I suspect that the things I want to do with this site will mean more PHP processing, and possibly heavier background MySQL than your average web-page.
