Dell’Oro Group: SD-WAN Market to Grow 33% Over Next 5 Years

Dell’Oro Group analysts in the latest SD-WAN report are expecting growth of 33% over the next 5 years for SD-WAN. Previous issues of the report indicated that in 2016 the SD-WAN market place was $300mn. This version puts the total SD-WAN market at $1.3bn by 2021.

Enterprises account for the majority of the growth. The split between enterprise and service provider last year was 80:20, in 2021 it changes to 70:30. The larger service provider spend however will be dwarfed by the growth in enterprise spend over the same time.

The migration to the cloud continues as the main driver for SD-WAN. Traditional WAN architectures have limitations for this kind of traffic flow, which SD-WAN avoids.
