Meraki introduces virtual MX gateway for AWS

Cisco‘s Meraki division has expanded their MX gateway product, with a virtual instance for installation on Amazon‘s AWS platform. Meraki uses the cloud for its management; it is a good fit. Cisco expects customers also to use AWS for business applications.

The vMX100 gateway links AWS as part of the contiguous corporate network. It provides up to 500Mb/s transfer into the AWS environment from the corporate environment. The virtual MX concentrator provides a one-armed VPN concentrator operating in split tunnel mode. The concentrator uses an m4.large instance of the AWS environment to provide its services. You’ll need to pay, for the instance, storage and transfer fees, as well as the Meraki license for the platform.

In the same blog post (Introducing virtual MX and MV optimized retention), Cisco also announced changed to the MV firmware that extends the video retention times. Discarding static scenes allows significant retention improvement in environments where there are low movement levels.
