Brocade purchase Vyatta – now has NFV/SDN capability

So Brocade Unfortunately, we could not get stock quote BRCD this time. has splashed some cash and will acquire Vyatta. The announcement on the Brocade web site indicates that the deal will close by the end of the year.

Vyatta provide a NFV router capability, along with firewall and VPN capabilities, in various forms. They recently announced an EC2 compliant image for deployment in Amazon Web Services (AWS) deployments, and have Hyper-V, VMware and Xen and KVM platform options as well.

Brocade’s Ken Cheng looks like he gets to manage the newly created Software Networking business unit of Brocade, combining Vyatta and Brocade’s existing Routing, Application Delivery and Software Networking Group.

Let’s see what happens.. I wonder if the open-source community editions of Vyatta’s platform will survive?
