WD mycloud drives are vulnerable to exploitation

Your WD networked drive is vulnerable to remote attacks, according to Engadget. If you’re using a WD mycloud drive, then you might have to look closely at the security surrounding the device, or even remove it from the network.

Engadget reports that Exploitee.rs has found many issues in the firmware, using poorly crafted code with easily defeatable “security” elements, exposing large aspects of the systems underbelly to an indiscriminate hacker.

Apparently, within the hacker community, WD has also a reputation for not responding to community discoveries, winning “Lamest Vendor Response” at the Pwnie Awards.

Not only can you write to the devices LCD, but as the exploits allow access as root within the system, anything is possible, all the way up to cloning the data to external systems.

So be careful out there..
