Finally it is complete, the removal of the two pine trees from the back garden that is.
These were a couple of small bushes at one point in the very distant past, and appeared to have been lopped to reduce growth some time ago. However no maintenance has occured since then, and the things have grown to be nearly 60 feet tall. They were always destined to be removed in the initial plans we had, so we got someone to look at them and quote for removal.
Sometime later (after checking for tree preservation orders, and other such administrivia), they arrived and with the aid of a couple of chainsaws, some ladders and rope removed half a tree in an afternoon. (Now understand because of their past history these trees were now mainly a collection of vertical branches in a sort of pine tree shape, so they presented some challenges to being cut down). The trunk was removed, along with a third of the other tree, the next day. Some high winds precluded moving forward for a few days, and gradually the tress diminished in size, dropping below the fence line, and then finally being taken down to ground level. They also removed a conifer from the front garden which was approaching eaves level.
Now all we need to do is get some smaller things to replace them..
